MMMmmmm….. Who doesn’t like grilled cheese!?
When you work in an area like I do, where the lunch-time food options are limited, food trucks can be the mid-day excursion you’ve been waiting for. Yesterday, the Grilled Cheese Truck was nearby. Last week they were there everyday (presumably to test the waters in the area) and I watched as my coworkers brought back little foil bags filled with cheesy gooey deliciousness. Also, I am the great lover of all things cheese. So naturally, I had to give it a try. This food truck did not disappoint.
A coworker and I decided to share two, so we could each try them both. We got their Brie Melt (Double Cream Brie with Crisp Apples, Toasted Almonds, Fresh Thyme and Wildflower Honey) and their French Onion Soup Melt (Gruyere with Onion Soup Confit and a Parmesan Crust, Served with Onion Soup Broth).
I love brie cheese, and the Brie Melt was really quite good. Not mind blowing, but definitely a great combination of tastes that really evened each other out nicely. Thyme was definitely a good touch to make the sandwich taste more like a savory meal and less like a fruit pastry. Would I get it again? Yes.
Now the French Onion Soup Melt was closer to the mind blowing category of foods. Really delicious, with a strong (but not overwhelming) french onion taste. And the soup broth that came with it was just the right touch to finish the collection of tastes. I can only assume they used beef broth because this sandwich really tricked me into thinking I was eating a french dip sandwich, roast beef and all. Would I get it again? A much more emphatic yes!
I hope you have the opportunity to check out the Grilled Cheese Truck, it is definitely worth an outing to hunt this food truck down!
